The Canyon is Grand Indeed
Chesterson was quoted saying that, "It is the root of all religion that a man knows that he is nothing in order to thank God that he is something." I think that it could be said similarly, that God caused the land to rise and the river to cut in such grandious form so to remind us that we are but a speck of dust on the landscape of earth, a moment in the millienia, subject to become a layer in time... And yet... we are loved by the creator of such a glorious monument.
That being said, for Spring Break this year, Stephen, Michael, Mia, Mo and I went to see the sights in Arizona. The weather ranged from the 40's to the 90's. We swam and experienced a snow storm. We ate Nopalitos (prickly pear cactus) and rattlesnake (even Mo had a bite! I was so proud). We saw Taliesin West, rode on a steam engine train, and all around felt small in the vastness of the desert.
Did you know there was such a thing as a purple cactus? I had no idea.
We were at the canyon long enough to watch a storm move through, which made even the Grand Canyon feel a bit miniature.
